The first being that I thoroughly admire his work and find something very tranquil about the black and white etchings that have found new life with precise hand colourings.
The second being that he is the great great grandfather of my dearly beloved, Chevalier. Henry Thomas Zachary Carrick Allom. (While there is much resemblance between my Allom and the celebrated topographical illustrator and founding member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, the portrait of Thomas Allom doesn't quite reflect the fiery intellect of my dearly beloved, or the burnt autumn hue of his hair...)
Here is a photo of butler Colin Edwards in the Saloon at the heart of the house. Designed by architect Thomas Allom in the gothic style and completed in the 1860s, it is one of many gorgeous rooms in the estate.
